Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care to patients including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, and ventilator management
• Assess patient respiratory status and collaborate with the care team to adjust treatment plans
• Respond to emergency and code blue situations as part of the resuscitation team
• Perform diagnostic tests such as arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary function tests
• Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions and home care techniques
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure respiratory equipment is clean and functioning

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist (RT) license in Virginia
• Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program
• BLS and ACLS certification required; PALS preferred
• Prior acute care respiratory therapy experience preferred, but new graduates with strong clinical skills are welcome to apply
• Excellent patient assessment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work per diem shifts, including some weekends and holidays

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of respiratory therapy modalities and mechanical ventilation
• Skill in interpreting arterial blood gases and patient monitoring
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Comfort with electronic health records
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing patient conditions and shift assignments
