Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and prepare pediatric patients for surgical procedures in the pre-op area
• Start IVs and administer preoperative medications as ordered
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team to ensure smooth patient flow
• Provide compassionate education and support to patients and families before surgery
• Document patient assessments and interventions accurately in the EHR
• Maintain a safe, calm, and child-friendly environment

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio
• BLS certification required; PALS preferred
• Experience in pediatric nursing or pre-op/PACU setting preferred
• Strong IV insertion and assessment skills
• Ability to communicate warmly with children and families

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric pre-operative assessment and care
• Knowledge of surgical preparation protocols and safety standards
• Medication administration and IV therapy
• Electronic health record (EHR) documentation
• Family-centered care and emotional support techniques
• Effective teamwork and communication in a fast-paced surgical environment
