Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality acute cardiac and post-operative nursing care in a progressive care/stepdown environment
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and EKG rhythms, respond quickly to dysrhythmias
• Administer IV cardiac medications and manage advanced therapies such as transvenous pacing and sheath care
• Manage airway and ventilator-support needs for chronic vent patients and new BiPAP/CPAP initiations
• Care for post-cardiac surgery patients including chest tube, epidural catheter, and PCA pump management
• Collaborate closely with hospitalists, cardiology, cath lab and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Document care accurately in Cerner EMR and use unit equipment (monitors, Pyxis, IV pumps) safely and effectively
• Float to ICU or MS/Telemetry as needed, bringing adaptability and teamwork to changing clinical needs

Qualifications

• Active Arizona RN license in good standing
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year PCU or progressive care experience (job details also reference 2 years in some sections)
• Proven competence in EKG/dysrhythmia interpretation — clinician must pass dysrhythmia exam within two attempts
• Experience with IV cardiac medication administration, transvenous pacing, sheath pull/care, chest tubes, epidural catheters, PCA pumps, and peritoneal dialysis care
• Comfort floating to ICU and managing higher-acuity cardiac and post-op surgical patients
• Must meet radius/employer restrictions (no facility-employed/PRN at affiliated CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity sites within the past year)

Education

• Active RN license required (ADN or diploma acceptable; BSN not required)
• Unit-specific orientation provided (12 hours listed) and ongoing competency training

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and advanced EKG interpretation
• Cerner EMR documentation and electronic charting workflows
• Familiarity with Philips cardiac monitors, Zoll R series, and Welch Allyn vital signs monitors
• Experience with Pyxis medication dispensing and Sigma Spectrum IV pumps
• Ability to manage invasive monitoring, arterial lines, and sheath care
• Strong critical thinking for rapid response to STEMI/NSTEMI and post-op cardiac complications
• Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced cardiac surgery/stepdown unit
