Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, compassionate care to mothers and newborns during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period
• Monitor maternal and fetal status, interpreting fetal heart rate patterns and vital signs
• Assist obstetricians and midwives during deliveries, including cesarean sections and emergency interventions
• Educate and support new families on newborn care, feeding, and postpartum recovery
• Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes for every patient

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state
• Current BLS certification (AHA or equivalent)
• NRP certification strongly preferred
• Previous labor and delivery or maternal-child nursing experience preferred
• Ability to quickly assess and respond to changing patient conditions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of labor and delivery procedures, fetal monitoring, and maternal-child nursing principles
• Proficient in medication administration, IV therapy, and emergency response protocols
• Skilled in using electronic health records and medical equipment
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in high-pressure situations
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
