Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform skilled phlebotomy procedures to collect blood specimens while ensuring patient comfort and safety
• Accurately identify patients using two identifiers and label specimens with precision
• Utilize Hospital Information System (HIS) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) to register patients and release orders
• Collect various specimen types including throat swabs, urine samples, blood cultures, and arterial punctures
• Drive to client sites and patient homes to provide mobile specimen collection services
• Perform waived testing procedures including glucose monitoring and EKGs when required
• Maintain specimen integrity through proper aseptic technique and handling procedures
• Communicate critical results to appropriate caregivers and document actions taken

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years phlebotomy experience required
• BLS/BCLS certification required
• Proficiency with Hospital Information System (HIS) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
• Valid driver's license for mobile collection duties
• Strong patient communication and assessment skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in aseptic technique and specimen collection procedures
• Knowledge of proper order of draw and special collection requirements
• Ability to assess patient reactions and adjust procedures accordingly
• Familiarity with insurance processes for reference laboratory billing
• Competency in performing arterial punctures and specialized collections
