Roles & Responsibilities

  • Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure and pulse oximetry, for oral surgery patients
  • Assist the oral surgeon during wisdom tooth extractions and other surgical procedures
  • Monitor patients receiving nitrous oxide or IV sedation and ensure their comfort and safety
  • Capture high-quality panoramic X-rays for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Provide clear, compassionate post-operative instructions to patients and caregivers
  • Prepare and maintain the operatory, ensuring all instruments and supplies are sterile and ready

Qualifications

  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or state-specific dental assisting certification where applicable
  • Current BLS or CPR certification
  • Prior experience in oral surgery or a fast-paced dental specialty practice
  • Proficiency in taking vital signs and monitoring patients under sedation
  • Comfortable using panoramic imaging equipment
  • Excellent communication skills and a caring, patient-focused approach

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong clinical knowledge of oral surgery procedures and instrumentation
  • Skilled in taking vital signs and recognizing changes in patient status
  • Understanding of nitrous oxide and IV sedation protocols
  • Working knowledge of panoramic X-ray techniques
  • Ability to provide clear and empathetic post-operative instructions
  • Team-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
