Roles & Responsibilities
- Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure and pulse oximetry, for oral surgery patients
- Assist the oral surgeon during wisdom tooth extractions and other surgical procedures
- Monitor patients receiving nitrous oxide or IV sedation and ensure their comfort and safety
- Capture high-quality panoramic X-rays for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
- Provide clear, compassionate post-operative instructions to patients and caregivers
- Prepare and maintain the operatory, ensuring all instruments and supplies are sterile and ready
Qualifications
- Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or state-specific dental assisting certification where applicable
- Current BLS or CPR certification
- Prior experience in oral surgery or a fast-paced dental specialty practice
- Proficiency in taking vital signs and monitoring patients under sedation
- Comfortable using panoramic imaging equipment
- Excellent communication skills and a caring, patient-focused approach
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical knowledge of oral surgery procedures and instrumentation
- Skilled in taking vital signs and recognizing changes in patient status
- Understanding of nitrous oxide and IV sedation protocols
- Working knowledge of panoramic X-ray techniques
- Ability to provide clear and empathetic post-operative instructions
- Team-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
