Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per diem (days vary based on staffing needs), 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM Day shift

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $16 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate personal care and support to geriatric residents
  • Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming)
  • Measure and record vital signs and report changes to the nursing team
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care and resident interactions
  • Promote resident safety through fall prevention and safe transfer techniques
  • Communicate clearly with nurses, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Support a clean, respectful, and dignified living environment for residents

Qualifications

  • Current GNA certification (or state-equivalent credential) in good standing
  • CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Experience working with elderly or long-term care populations is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to perform physical tasks required for resident care

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; GNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of elder care best practices and dignity-focused care
  • Basic skills in measuring vital signs and recognizing changes in condition
  • Infection control and proper hygiene techniques
  • Time management and prioritization in a busy care setting
  • Familiarity with electronic charting or willingness to learn
