Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per diem (days vary based on staffing needs), 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM Day shift

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $16 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate personal care and support to geriatric residents
Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming)
Measure and record vital signs and report changes to the nursing team
Maintain accurate documentation of care and resident interactions
Promote resident safety through fall prevention and safe transfer techniques
Communicate clearly with nurses, families, and interdisciplinary team members
Support a clean, respectful, and dignified living environment for residents

Qualifications

Current GNA certification (or state-equivalent credential) in good standing
CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Experience working with elderly or long-term care populations is a plus
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
Ability to perform physical tasks required for resident care

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred; GNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of elder care best practices and dignity-focused care
Basic skills in measuring vital signs and recognizing changes in condition
Infection control and proper hygiene techniques
Time management and prioritization in a busy care setting
Familiarity with electronic charting or willingness to learn
