Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide advanced critical care to patients in a 10-bed CVICU, with a focus on immediate post-operative open heart recovery
• Monitor and operate advanced equipment including A-lines, central lines, chest tubes, invasive lines, and ventilation support
• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care from admission to discharge, including discharge planning
• Collaborate with providers, charge nurses, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure positive outcomes
• Assess patients for changes and intervene quickly to prevent deterioration
• Act as a clinical leader and precept new staff while supporting the whole care team

Qualifications

• Current Montana RN licensure (must be active) with BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• At least 2 years of critical care nursing experience, including recent open heart recovery nurse experience
• Training and experience caring for immediate post-operative open heart patients
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a degree in nursing
• Strong critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent and a degree from an accredited nursing program

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care and CVICU nursing principles, including open heart recovery
• Cardiovascular monitoring and EKG interpretation
• Ventilator management and support for patients on noninvasive and invasive ventilation
• A-line, central line, chest tube, and invasive line management
• IV pump management and advanced medical equipment operation
• Patient assessment, care planning, and emergency response
• Team collaboration, clinical leadership, and precepting
