Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver therapeutic and medical play interventions tailored to each child’s developmental level
• Provide non-pharmacological pain management techniques and emotional support during procedures
• Prepare children and families for tests, surgeries and procedures through education and coping strategies
• Advocate for patients and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to support care plans
• Offer bereavement support and resources to families when needed
• Document interventions and patient interactions through daily charting (Epic preferred)
• Be present during procedures to help reduce anxiety and facilitate positive coping

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Life, Child Development or related field (required)
• Child Life Specialist certification or proof of eligibility to sit for the Child Life Certification Exam
• Completion of a 600-hour in-person Child Life internship (required)
• Master’s degree in a related field preferred
• Acute care experience preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred
• COVID-19 vaccination and booster required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Life, Child Development or related field (required)
• Master’s degree in related field (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Therapeutic play and medical play techniques across developmental ages
• Non-pharmacological pain management strategies
• Bereavement support and family resources
• Strong patient advocacy and interdisciplinary communication skills
• Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to educate families on diagnoses
• Daily clinical documentation and charting practices (Epic preferred)
• Ability to prepare children for procedures and teach coping skills
