Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality perioperative nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for patients of all ages
• Coordinate care with surgeons and anesthesiologists to ensure smooth, safe operative experiences
• Provide intraoperative support and direction to OR technicians and other staff while maintaining professional nursing standards
• Manage pre- and post-operative patient needs to promote efficient patient flow and excellent outcomes
• Participate in performance improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services to drive quality care
• Serve as a knowledgeable resource for colleagues and help maintain unit organization and readiness
• Adhere to hospital policies, regulations and safety protocols to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• Current and valid state Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintained
• Current ACLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) required (ACLS/PALS within 30 days of hire and maintained)
• DCI/BVP certification as listed
• Open-heart (cardiac) OR experience required
• Minimum of 1 year perioperative experience or equivalent on-the-job training
• Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) preferred
• Must be able to take call — no exceptions

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing and OR protocols
• Patient assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
• Intraoperative support and sterile technique
• Effective coordination and communication with surgical and anesthesia teams
• Pre- and post-operative nursing care
• Ability to direct and mentor OR support staff
• Familiarity with competency assessments and skills checklists
