Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide vigilant direct observation and therapeutic support to individuals in a correctional mental health setting
• Assist with implementation of individualized care plans and support behavioral interventions
• Perform accurate, timely documentation of observations, incidents, and interventions
• Use evidence-based de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain safety
• Collaborate with nursing, mental health clinicians, and custody staff to ensure continuity of care
• Participate in shift handoffs, unit briefings, and mandatory trainings during orientation and assignment

Qualifications

• Current Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential required
• California LPT licensure preferred or ability to obtain state authorization as required
• Comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment and following facility policies
• Ability to work the posted schedule (Saturday through Wednesday, 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM)
• Willingness to complete a two-week orientation and follow daily confirmation/per diem procedures

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a Psychiatric Technician/LPT training program or equivalent clinical training
• Current basic life support (BLS) or CPR certification as required by employer

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong observational skills and attention to behavioral detail
• Proficiency in crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation techniques
• Clear, concise clinical documentation and reporting
• Effective communication and teamwork across multidisciplinary teams
• Knowledge of basic psychotropic medication observation and safety practices
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and prioritize patient/resident safety
