Roles & Responsibilities

• Administer physician-prescribed respiratory therapy treatments with expertise in indications, contraindications, and outcomes
• Set up, monitor, and manage mechanical ventilators for patients requiring respiratory support
• Deliver oxygen therapy, nebulizers, aerosols, and Chest Physiotherapy (CPT) as ordered
• Perform pulmonary function tests including Flow Volume Loops, DLCO, and Nitrogen Washouts
• Assist with airway management, intubations, and emergency respiratory care as part of the CPR/Code Blue team
• Conduct diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, stress testing, Holter monitoring, EEGs, and arterial blood gas draws
• Provide patient and family education on respiratory conditions, treatments, and equipment
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team

Qualifications

• Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an AMA-approved program
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred; CRT considered with commitment to obtain RRT within 12 months
• Current New Mexico Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license
• Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred
• 2 years of post-graduate respiratory therapy experience preferred
• 1 year of critical care or pediatric experience preferred
• ER or transport experience preferred

Education

• Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy from a two-year AMA-approved program
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of respiratory care principles, anatomy, physiology, medications, and equipment
• Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making in high-pressure situations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
• Proficiency in electronic medical records and documentation
• Commitment to continuing education and staying current with advancements
