Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess respiratory status and implement individualized treatment plans
• Manage ventilators and provide advanced airway support when needed
• Administer aerosolized medications, bronchodilators, and other respiratory therapies
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Respond quickly and calmly to respiratory emergencies and rapid response situations
• Document treatments, assessments, and progress in the medical record accurately and timely
• Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment to ensure safe, effective therapy

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist credential (CRT or RRT) required
• Valid Virginia respiratory license or eligible to obtain state licensure
• Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred or willingness to obtain
• Prior acute care or hospital respiratory experience preferred
• Strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and teamwork mindset

Education

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent accredited program
• Completion of required clinical training and program certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning protocols
• Skilled in arterial blood gas interpretation and respiratory assessment
• Familiarity with respiratory care equipment, suctioning techniques, and airway management
• Ability to work independently during overnight shifts and prioritize caseload
• Comfortable documenting in electronic health records and following hospital policies
