Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform all medical physics tasks for safe and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionizing radiation in collaboration with radiation oncologists and staff
• Develop, implement, and review policies ensuring proper functioning of therapeutic equipment like accelerators and brachytherapy
• Conduct daily output and quality assessment checks on radiation-producing equipment
• Oversee clinical QA, acceptance testing, commissioning, and calibrations for all equipment
• Guide technical aspects of dosimetrists and therapists activities
• Participate in IOERT treatments ensuring machine performance through QA procedures
• Assist in treatment planning for External Beam, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, and Brachytherapy
• Coordinate optimal treatment plans with radiation oncologists and technical staff
• Perform treatment planning for High Dose Rate Treatments and monitor patients during procedures
• Evaluate and update treatment planning software and radiation calculation tools

Qualifications

• Master of Science in Medical Physics, Physics, or related field required (Doctorate preferred)
• Completed Residency within past 5 years
• Board Certified Radiation Therapy Physicist by the American Board of Medical Physicists
• Board Certified Radiation Therapy Physicist by the American Board of Radiology
• Eligible to be an Authorized Medical Physicist by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (highly preferred)
• 3-5 years experience in a clinical setting (highly preferred)

Education

• Master of Science in Medical Physics, Physics, or related field required
• Doctor's degree in Medical Physics or Physics related discipline preferred

• Treatment planning for External Beam, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, and Brachytherapy
• High Dose Rate Treatments
• Regulatory compliance for radiation therapy
