Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies with compassion and clear communication
- Perform high-quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans following established protocols
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot imaging equipment including gamma camera and dose calibrator
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and document administration according to policy
- Maintain radiation safety practices and use required protective equipment
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and ready for patient care
- Communicate findings and collaborate effectively with radiologists, physicians, and the care team
- Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support learners and staff
- Adapt care for patients of all ages, responding appropriately to varying developmental needs
Qualifications
- Current Hawai'i license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
- One year of nuclear medicine experience preferred, but new graduates are encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear medicine physics, radiopharmaceutical administration, and radiation safety
- Proven ability to operate gamma cameras, dose calibrators, survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
- Strong communication skills and critical thinking to support patient care and clinical decision-making
- Comfort working independently in a single-tech rural hospital environment while leveraging system-wide support
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient preparation and compassionate bedside manner
- Diagnostic nuclear medicine scanning techniques
- Radiopharmaceutical preparation and administration
- Radiation safety principles and PPE use
- Gamma camera operation and image acquisition
- Dose calibrator, survey meter, well counter, and thyroid uptake probe operation
- Equipment troubleshooting and routine maintenance
- Clear communication with radiologists, physicians, and clinical teams
- Critical thinking and ability to adapt in a rural acute care setting
