Roles & Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough mental health assessments and provide evidence-based individual and group therapy
• Develop, implement and revise individualized treatment plans that support recovery and rehabilitation
• Collaborate closely with correctional healthcare staff and multidisciplinary teams at Valley State Prison to coordinate care
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed, maintaining safety for patients and staff
• Document clinical encounters clearly and timely, ensuring compliance with facility and regulatory requirements
• Advocate for patient needs and support reentry planning and linkage to community resources

Qualifications

• Active LCSW license (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) in California; newly licensed clinicians are welcome
• Or active Psychologist (PSYL), LMFT, or LPCC licensure as indicated; candidates with any of these licenses may be considered
• Experience in mental health assessment and therapy, ideally with adult populations
• Comfort working in a correctional setting and ability to pass required background and facility checks
• Strong written documentation and interpersonal communication skills
• Current CPR/First Aid may be required per facility policy

Education

• Master of Social Work (MSW) for LCSW roles
• Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) or appropriate graduate degree for psychologist roles, where applicable

Knowledge & Skills

• Trauma-informed care and evidence-based therapeutic modalities
• Assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for serious mental illness
• Group therapy facilitation and individual counseling techniques
• Crisis intervention, risk assessment and safety planning
• Familiarity with documentation standards and electronic charting
• Excellent teamwork, collaboration and professional boundaries in secure settings
