Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care for MedSurg/Telemetry neuro patients, including stroke and post-neurosurgery cases
• Perform thorough patient assessments and prioritize care during high-admission/discharge days
• Titrate IV medications safely and per protocol (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and manage PCA pumps
• Monitor telemetry and maintain tele-awareness while collaborating with Tele/Monitor Techs
• Use EPIC for accurate charting and timely documentation
• Practice hourly rounding and responsiveness to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction
• Work collaboratively with charge nurses, nursing assistants, and interdisciplinary teams to maintain safe nurse:patient ratios
• Float to other MedSurg areas as needed and adapt to changing patient-care needs

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure (eligible to work in Nebraska) — license required at submission for radius verification
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum ~2 years of acute care nursing experience preferred (MedSurg/Telemetry experience strongly preferred)
• Clean background and valid driver's license required at submittal
• Ability to pass an open-book skills/orientation exam at 90% (required to continue assignment)
• Comfort with mechanical lifts and working with diverse patient populations

Education

• BSN not required (position indicates BSN Required: No); active RN license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong MedSurg and telemetry nursing skills with neuro patient experience
• IV medication titration expertise and PCA pump management
• Proficiency with EPIC charting system
• Telemetry/monitor awareness and basic rhythm recognition
• Excellent patient assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking
• Teamwork, clear communication, and reliability under busy unit conditions
• Cultural sensitivity and ability to serve patients from varied backgrounds (Spanish, Karen, Burmese noted)
