Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert care to laboring moms from admission through delivery and recovery
• Circulate C-sections in one of two on-unit OR suites and support the whole surgical flow
• Monitor fetal heart tracings and interpret EKG strips for moms in PACU
• Titrate Pitocin and manage drips with confidence in a high-risk unit
• Deliver full-scope couplet care, looking after both mom and baby together
• Float to other Sacramento facilities when needed, with mid-shift floats being rare
• Jump in as the NRP Baby Catcher role for an entire shift when the team needs you

Qualifications

• Active RN license with ability to submit license at application
• 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, LDRP experience is a big plus
• BLS, ACLS, NRP and AWHONN-Advanced certifications required
• Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required
• STABLE certification preferred
• Comfortable circulating C-sections and caring for high-risk OB patients
• Must be willing to float to the Mother Baby unit and take on all aspects of LDRP care
• Two supervisory references, with charge accepted, one within 12 months and one within 3 years
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI or Dignity facilities within the past year

Education

• Common diagnoses/Types of patients preterm labor/bleeding/inductions/cesarean sections/hypertension
• Experience or 'Must have' skills Must be able to float to MB and be able to circulate c-sections. All RNs must be able to circulate C/S
• Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes
• Common titratable &/or set rate drips Pitocin
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Yes, generally does not take patients, but will do break relief.
• Are there nurse aids/surgical techs on this unit? OB surgical techs
• OB/Neonatologist in house 24/7? OB hospitalist 24/7 - Neo on call 24/7 and rounds daily. Anesthesia in house 24/7.
• RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, etc) No vents
• Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? Yes, must be able to read and interpret EKG strips on moms in PACU only
• EFM System: GE Corometric monitors - Fetalink surveillance
• Shifts & Scheduling:12 hr shifts. Shift starts 645. Report is at the bedside. OT and extra shifts are available. EOW and rotate with staff on holidays
• If placed on call - response time is 30 minutes
• Floating Requirements? All other Sacramento facilities. Mid-shift float to another facility is rare, but can happen. No in house floating.
• Scrubs: Provided
• Baby Catcher is also known as the NRP role. This is sometimes filled by NICU staff and sometimes by L&D. Depends on who has the staff available to do it. But it is an assignment for the entire shift.

• AWHONN ratio guidelines for labor, couplet and antepartum care
• Cerner charting experience
• GE Corometric monitors with Fetalink surveillance
• Couplet care, postpartum recovery and C-section circulating
• Care for preterm labor, bleeding, inductions, hypertension and cesarean patients
