Roles & Responsibilities

• Circulate during cardiac surgeries, maintaining a safe sterile field and anticipating surgeon needs
• Assess and monitor patients throughout perioperative care to ensure optimal outcomes
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, scrub techs and ICU staff for smooth transitions
• Document intraoperative events and patient status accurately in the medical record
• Support pre- and post-operative patient education and family communication with compassion
• Actively participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives in the OR

Qualifications

• Current unencumbered Oregon RN license required upon submission
• Healthcare Provider BLS required (current)
• AHA ACLS required (current)
• Minimum one year experience as a circulating nurse in the OR, or completion of an approved didactic pre-operative nursing class
• Two years experience in ICU/PCU and/or medical-surgical acute care required
• One year CVOR/Open Heart experience preferred; scrubbing experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of cardiac surgical procedures and intraoperative protocols
• Proficient in sterile technique and operating room safety practices
• Skilled in patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, and rapid response
• Clear, calm communication and teamwork in high-acuity situations
• Accurate perioperative documentation and familiarity with common EHR workflows
• Ability to adapt to varied day schedules and occasional weekend coverage
