Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate inmates' nutrition status and create individualized nutrition care plans
• Provide medical nutrition therapy for a variety of conditions and therapeutic diets
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and correctional staff to coordinate patient-centered care
• Document nutrition assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the health record (Cerner experience preferred)
• Implement and monitor diet orders, special menus, and therapeutic feeding protocols
• Educate patients and staff on nutrition topics and safe feeding practices
• Ensure compliance with facility policies and CDCR protocols while maintaining compassionate care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential required
• California dietitian licensure or eligibility to obtain state licensure
• Comfort working in a correctional healthcare setting; CDCR experience preferred
• Familiarity with electronic health records—Cerner experience preferred
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility clearances

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field
• Completion of an accredited dietetic internship or supervised practice program (ACEND accredited) and eligibility for RD credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of medical nutrition therapy and therapeutic diets
• Skilled in nutrition assessment, care planning, and outcome measurement
• Proficient documentation skills and comfort using electronic health records (Cerner)
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary teamwork skills
• Familiarity with correctional healthcare policies and infection prevention best practices
