Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management for patients in a correctional mental health setting
• Develop individualized treatment plans that balance clinical best practices with the unique needs of the patient population
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, social work, and behavioral health staff to ensure coordinated care
• Deliver crisis assessment and stabilization when needed, prioritizing safety and therapeutic de-escalation
• Maintain clear, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the facility EMR
• Participate in case reviews, treatment team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to elevate patient outcomes

Qualifications

• MD or DO with specialization in Psychiatry
• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry preferred
• Active or eligible for California medical license
• DEA registration or ability to obtain DEA license prior to start
• Experience in correctional, forensic, or community mental health settings is highly desirable
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and comfort working in a multidisciplinary environment

Education

• MD or DO in Psychiatry (required)
• Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and psychopharmacology
• Familiarity with behavioral health treatment planning and risk assessment
• Ability to work effectively within a correctional healthcare framework and understand related safety protocols
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation standards
• Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with clinical teams and facility staff
• Competence in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
