Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess each patient's leisure interests, functional abilities, and needs to create personalized recreation therapy plans
• Plan and lead therapeutic activities that support physical, cognitive, social, and emotional recovery
• Document patient progress and adjust goals to help them achieve meaningful outcomes
• Collaborate with the rehab team to ensure a whole-person approach to care
• Educate patients and families on community reintegration and resources
• Empower patients to rediscover joy, confidence, and independence through engaging recreation

Qualifications

• Current CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) certification is strongly preferred
• State-specific registration or licensure as a recreational therapist, if applicable
• Prior experience in inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, or acute care is a plus
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• A passion for helping others and a creative, patient-centered approach

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of therapeutic recreation assessment and treatment techniques
• Understanding of diagnoses common in inpatient rehab, such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and orthopedics
• Comfort documenting in electronic medical records
• Strong activity planning and group facilitation skills
• Compassion, patience, and excellent communication
