Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate direct care to patients in the psychiatric program, supporting daily living and therapeutic activities
  • Observe and document patient behavior, progress, and any changes in condition clearly and accurately
  • Assist licensed clinicians with implementation of treatment plans and therapeutic interventions
  • Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain a safe therapeutic environment
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated, person-centered care
  • Support safety protocols and correctional facility guidelines while advocating for patient dignity
  • Participate in orientation, ongoing training, and team meetings to continuously improve care delivery

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential — California LPT preferred
  • Completion of a state-approved psychiatric technician program or equivalent clinical training
  • Comfortable working in a correctional psychiatric setting; prior experience is a plus
  • Current CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Ability to pass required background checks, health screenings, and facility clearances
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved psychiatric technician program; state LPT licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Solid observational skills and attention to detail for accurate documentation
  • Crisis intervention and behavioral management strategies
  • Therapeutic communication and empathy when working with patients with mental health needs
  • Ability to follow care plans, safety protocols, and facility policies
  • Teamwork, time management, and the ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment
  • Familiarity with electronic charting and clinical documentation best practices
