Roles & Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean and reprocess surgical instruments and specialty equipment (drills, robotics, scopes) using proper aseptic technique
• Assemble, organize and standardize instrument sets and trays across service lines to ensure OR readiness
• Perform and document sterilization cycles with STERRAD and steam systems and monitor biological/chemical indicators for quality assurance
• Execute high-level disinfection and endoscope reprocessing workflows, including AERs and ultrasonic cleaning
• Act as an OR liaison to coordinate instrument flow, troubleshoot issues and support surgical teams
• Manage sterile storage, inventory tracking (Censitrac) and immediate-use steam sterilization (IUSS) according to policy
• Maintain equipment documentation, participate in tray standardization and support procurement efforts across the enterprise
• Mentor and train staff on best practices to maintain a safe, efficient sterile processing operation

Qualifications

• CBSPD or CRCST certification (HSPA / formerly IAHCSMM recognized) — accepted and preferred
• Minimum 3+ years of sterile processing experience in a high-volume facility similar to OSU — HARD STOP
• Teaching hospital experience required; Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I preferred
• Experience with STERRAD, steam sterilization, HLD, scope reprocessing, and Censitrac tracking system
• Familiarity with Epic charting is preferred
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions allowed); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
• Willingness to float to multiple locations across the health system and work occasional holidays

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• CBSPD or CRCST certification required (HSPA/IAHCSMM recognized)

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterilization: STERRAD and steam processes, IUSS, biological & chemical indicator monitoring
• Endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection (AER experience)
• Instrument processing: tray/set assembly, preference cards, peel packaging and loaner handling
• Aseptic technique and sterile storage management
• Specialty equipment decontamination (DaVinci, drills, robotics)
• Use of washers, ultrasonic cleaners and sterilizers
• Tracking/inventory systems (Censitrac) and documentation best practices
• Strong OR liaison skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple sites
