Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage and provide expert critical care to pediatric patients in the PICU, including post-op and trauma care
- Operate and manage ventilators (HFOV, VDR, Servo) and advanced respiratory support
- Initiate, titrate and monitor vasoactive and inotropic drips (epinephrine, norepinephrine, milrinone, dopamine, dexmedetomidine)
- Perform and care for pressure lines and invasive monitoring (CVP, arterial lines, UAC/UVC) with meticulous line management and dressing changes
- Assist with and perform unit procedures such as Foley insertions, trans-pyloric feeding tube placement, port access, and wound/CVL dressing changes
- Conduct neuro assessments and care for complex trauma patients (EVDs, Codmans) with attention to detail
- Document patient care thoroughly in Meditech and communicate care plans with the interdisciplinary team
- Educate and support families, ensuring compassionate care and clear communication during high-acuity situations
Qualifications
- Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses will NOT be accepted)
- PALS certification required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric critical care experience in a high-acuity setting
- Demonstrated experience with ventilator management and vasoactive drips
- Comfort with complex pediatric postoperative and trauma care, including tracheostomies
Education
- Registered Nurse (RN) — active Texas RN license required (degree not specified in posting)
Knowledge & Skills
- PICU nursing and pediatric critical care expertise
- Ventilator management including HFOV, VDR and Servo ventilators
- Central and arterial line care and monitoring
- Infusion/drip management and titration of vasoactive medications
- Experience with complex trauma care, neuro assessments, EVDs and Codmans
- Postoperative pediatric care including congenital/craniofacial cases and tracheostomies
- Meditech documentation proficiency
- Procedural skills: Foley insertions, trans-pyloric feeding tubes, wound and CVL dressing changes, port access
- Clinical recognition and management of respiratory illnesses, sepsis, and DKA
