Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate nursing care to pediatric critical care patients in the PICU
• Monitor and manage complex devices and procedures including chest tubes and post-operative thoracic care
• Perform and assist with procedures such as lumbar punctures and seizure management with professionalism
• Document thoroughly and efficiently using Meditech EMR to ensure continuity of care
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams — physicians, respiratory therapists, and unit staff — to deliver safe care
• Triage and prioritize patient needs in a fast-paced environment, maintaining calm under pressure
• Educate families and caregivers about care plans, procedures, and post-discharge needs

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas (required)
• BLS and PALS certifications (required)
• Experience in pediatric med/surg or PICU nursing; comfort with critical pediatric scenarios
• Familiarity with Meditech or similar EMR systems
• Comfort and competence in chest tube management, lumbar punctures, and seizure management
• Team player attitude — supportive, collaborative, and adaptable
• ACLS certification and thoracic/neurosurgery experience are a plus

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) accepted

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care
• Critical care fundamentals for children including ventilator and post-op management
• Chest tube and thoracic post-operative care
• Seizure recognition and acute management in pediatrics
• Proficiency with Meditech electronic medical records
• Strong communication skills with families and multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with NICU level 1-2 floating expectations
