Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and manage critically ill pediatric patients with thoughtful, evidence-based care
• Operate and manage ventilators, tracheostomies, high-frequency ventilators and oscillators to support respiratory needs
• Perform airway management and assist with Rapid Sequence Intubation and procedure sedation safely
• Administer blood and blood products, manage central lines/PICC/ports and maintain meticulous vascular access care
• Monitor cardiovascular status including CVP and obtain 12-lead EKGs as clinically indicated
• Manage chest tube care, drains, epidural/PCA pumps, syringe pumps and wound VAC therapy
• Document care thoroughly in Epic and maintain accurate pediatric dosage calculations
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (RT, Pharmacy, PT, Social Work, etc.) to deliver family-centered care
• Float to appropriate units when needed and support unit staffing to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active RN license (compact license accepted by Swedish facilities) — must be eligible to work in WA
• BLS and PALS required; NRP preferred
• Minimum 2 years of pediatric critical care experience (screen for less than 2 years not accepted)
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Comfort and competence with ventilator management, trach care, chest tubes, and central line care
• Experience with blood/blood product administration and pediatric medication/dosage calculations
• Familiarity with Epic electronic documentation preferred
• Ability to float to NICU or other units within skill set and complete orientation

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric critical care and PICU workflows
• Ventilator management, CPAP/BiPAP, high-frequency ventilation and oscillator support
• Airway management, Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) medications and procedural sedation monitoring
• Central line, PICC, port-a-cath care and IV therapy/phlebotomy skills
• Blood/blood product administration and transfusion safety
• CVP monitoring and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Syringe pumps, PCA/epidural pump management and wound VAC handling
• CRRT familiarity preferred, pediatric dosage calculations and emergency medication proficiency
• Epic documentation and accurate charting
