Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients on medical/surgical and telemetry units with attentiveness and clinical judgment
• Provide safe, effective nursing care including medication administration and documentation
• Interpret telemetry and notify the team promptly of rhythm changes or clinical deterioration
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and execute patient-centered care plans
• Perform specialty competency tasks as required and participate in skills validation
• Educate patients and families to support recovery and safe transitions home
• Respond to emergencies with calm, trained interventions (BLS/ACLS-ready)
• Maintain accurate licensure, certifications, and required health screenings

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Iowa and successful license/certificate verification
• Certifications: BLS and ACLS required; TNCC and NIHSS listed as required in the order
• Competency with medical/surgical and telemetry patient populations
• Completion of facility-specific competency testing (Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Skills Checklist)
• Up-to-date immunizations and health screenings per facility requirements (COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hep B, Tdap, influenza, 2-step PPD or IGRA, varicella)
• Ability to pass fit testing and a Trinity 10 panel drug screen
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) - current RN license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Medical/surgical nursing best practices and patient assessment
• Basic and advanced life support protocols (BLS, ACLS)
• Familiarity with specialty assessments such as NIHSS and trauma/neuro triage concepts (TNCC-related skills)
• Accurate electronic charting and documentation
• Clinical decision-making under pressure and effective escalation
• Infection control, medication administration, and IV care
