Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality med-surg and telemetry nursing care for post-op and general surgery patients on K8 General Surgery
• Manage patient assignments of 6-7 patients depending on shift, maintaining safe staffing ratios
• Administer and monitor therapies such as TPN, PCA, IV antibiotics, and heparin drips
• Perform advanced wound care including wound vac management and ostomy care
• Care for patients with tube feeds (PEG, Dobhoff), NG tubes, and various drains (biliary, JP, nephrostomy)
• Operate and troubleshoot Baxter IV pumps and other unit equipment
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner EMR and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team
• Deliver patient and family education, discharge planning, and emotional support during recovery

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state-appropriate) required
• Telemetry competency required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Minimum 2+ years of recent med-surg/telemetry nursing experience
• Experience with urology and colorectal/bowel patient populations strongly preferred
• Comfortable managing 6-7 patients on shift and working in a fast-paced surgical unit
• Experience with TPN, PCA, wound vacs, tube feeds, ostomy/drain care, and IV therapies preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong med-surg and telemetry nursing knowledge
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR for accurate charting and communication
• Competence with TPN, PCA, Baxter IV pumps, and IV antibiotic administration
• Wound vac and ostomy care skills
• Tube feed and NG tube management
• Excellent communication and teamwork with charge nurses, unit secretaries, providers, and CNAs
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, energetic environment with a positive attitude
