Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and lead therapeutic recreational activities that support mental health and rehabilitation goals
• Assess participants and develop individualized activity plans to promote coping, social skills, and daily functioning
• Facilitate group sessions that foster socialization, emotional regulation, and skill-building
• Document participant progress and maintain accurate clinical records
• Collaborate with mental health and facility staff to integrate recreational goals into treatment plans
• Maintain a safe environment and adhere to all facility security and safety protocols

Qualifications

• Degree or coursework in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field preferred
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or equivalent certification preferred
• Experience in recreational therapy or mental health settings; correctional experience is a plus
• Strong group facilitation, communication, and documentation skills
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility clearance requirements

Education

• Associate or Bachelor’s in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology, Kinesiology, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of therapeutic recreation interventions and activity planning for mental health
• Proven group facilitation and behavior management techniques
• Clinical documentation, outcome measurement, and progress reporting
• Ability to adapt activities for diverse participant needs and abilities
• Familiarity with safety and security practices in institutional settings
