Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients using the nursing process and create clear, patient-centered care plans
• Provide expert psychiatric nursing care across the lifespan from infants to elders
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Interpret diagnostic tests and basic EKGs to inform clinical decisions
• Coordinate care and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for the best outcomes
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers to support recovery and continuity of care
• Supervise Psychiatric Technicians and act as a clinical resource on shift
• Document care thoroughly and follow established guidelines and policies

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the State of Alaska
• Completion of a nursing program from an NLN-approved institution
• Current BLS certification
• Preferred: 1 year of nursing experience in a healthcare setting
• Ability to pass and maintain required competencies for the role
• Comfort supervising Psychiatric Technicians and leading on-shift care

Education

• Completion of a nursing program from an NLN-approved institution (RN education)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong grasp of the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation
• Medication administration and safe medication practices
• Basic EKG interpretation and interpretation of other diagnostic tests
• Proficient oral and written communication skills
• Familiarity with medical and office equipment (computer, telephone, fax, copy, EKG)
• Cultural competency and ability to deliver age-specific care
• Care management, continuity of care, and nursing documentation
• Ability to work independently within scope and collaborate across disciplines
