Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor and document the neuro status of patients with precision and compassion
• Provide evidence-based nursing care for stepdown patients, including medication administration and advanced monitoring
• Collaborate closely with physicians, therapists and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate timely care
• Recognize and escalate changes in patient condition quickly to improve outcomes
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, care plans and discharge needs in a clear, calming way
• Maintain accurate, timely charting in the electronic medical record and support smooth handoffs

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in Louisiana)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Prior experience in a neuro stepdown, stepdown unit (SDU) or similar higher-acuity setting is highly valued
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort with telemetry/neurological monitoring
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to patient-centered care

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred when available

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro assessment and recognition of subtle changes in patient status
• Telemetry and advanced cardiac/neurological monitoring
• IV medication administration and infusion pump competency
• Critical thinking, prioritization and rapid decision-making under pressure
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and documentation best practices
