Roles & Responsibilities

• Welcome patients, obtain accurate vital signs, and record medication and allergy histories in the medical record
• Prepare exam and procedure rooms and assist providers during minor procedures and biopsies
• Perform venipuncture and blood/lab draws, label and prepare specimens for Quest Diagnostic submissions
• Administer immunizations, injections, or oral medications per provider orders
• Clean, reprocess, and maintain equipment and supplies following department guidelines
• Document patient encounters in the EMR, supporting chart accuracy and continuity of care
• Support tracking and monitoring of department-specific data and quality metrics
• Explain policies and procedures to patients with clarity and compassion

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma from a DAPIP accredited program OR national MA certification (AAMA, AMCA, AMT, CCBMA, or MMCI)
• Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant
• BLS certification required
• Proficiency with blood draws and venipuncture required
• Phlebotomy certification preferred
• Experience in an outpatient surgical center preferred
• Experience with CS-Link/Epic and Quest Diagnostic lab submissions preferred
• Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required
• Locals only - must be within commuting distance of Torrance and float sites

Education

• Medical Assistant Certificate or Diploma (DAPIP accredited) OR national MA certification (AAMA, AMCA, AMT, CCBMA, MMCI)
• High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

• Vital signs, height/weight measurement, and accurate documentation
• Specimen collection, labeling, and handling for lab submissions
• Wound care, dressing changes, and suture removal skills
• Procedure room setup and assist skills for minor surgeries and biopsies
• Proficient charting in CS-Link/Epic or similar EMR systems
• Understanding of medical terminology, insurance/referral processes, and benefit plans
• Strong patient communication and customer service skills
• Infection control and safe equipment reprocessing practices
