Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform utilization review and concurrent review to ensure appropriate levels of care
• Coordinate discharge planning and care transitions so patients leave with a safe plan
• Apply InterQual and Milliman guidelines to assess medical necessity and continued stay
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to resolve appeals, denials, and retrospective reviews
• Use Epic for accurate charting, documentation, and communication across the care team
• Review cases using ICD-10 and CPT coding knowledge to support regulatory requirements
• Advocate for patients by coordinating care, referrals, and community resources
• Support quality and compliance efforts related to HIPAA, CMS, NCQA, and The Joint Commission standards

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure to practice in Ohio (Ohio compact license accepted)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (case management, utilization review, or precert preferred)
• Epic experience required — comfortable with electronic charting and workflows
• Experience with InterQual and/or Milliman guidelines is highly desirable
• Previous charge or teaching hospital experience is a plus
• Travel experience not required — first-time travelers are accepted

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of case management and care coordination practices
• Experience applying InterQual and Milliman criteria for utilization review
• Familiarity with appeals, denials, concurrent review, and retrospective review processes
• Comfortable using Epic for documentation and care coordination
• Working knowledge of ICD-10 coding and CPT basics
• Understanding of regulatory standards: HIPAA, CMS, NCQA, The Joint Commission
• Excellent communication skills for multidisciplinary collaboration and patient advocacy
• Ability to manage a daily caseload and prioritize based on clinical need
