Education

  • Common diagnoses/Types of patients Medical, Surgical, Neuro and cardiac
  • Experience or 'Must have' skills ICU 2 years, high acuity preferred
  • Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes
  • Common titratable &/or set rate drips Epi, Norepi, Dobutamine, Propofol, Esmolol, Hydromorphone, Midazolam, CIS
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge/Res are free
  • Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios yes, usually 1-2 depending on the daily census
  • RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, etc) Vent, High flow, Bipap, cpap
  • Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Phillips monitors, at least 1 MT, yes RN read strips
  • Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) Yes, self scheduling
  • Weekend Requirements 3 weekend shifts per schedule
  • Holiday Requirements Yes
  • Is there a call or standby requirement? No
  • How are units assigned? i.e. via text message, daily sheet assignments, set schedule? Charge RN creates assignments at 0645-1845 RNs choose assignments
  • Scrub Color/Dress Code Royal Blue
  • Unit/Department specific orientation General Hospital Orientation, Myles Modules, Cerner Validation class, on unit orientation -2 shift in the ICU
