Education

  • Common diagnoses/Types of patients ED holds waiting for placement on a unit, primarily MS/Tele
  • Experience or 'Must have' skills Must have a strong cardiac tele background, preferably 2 years. Must be able to decrease cardiac drips per physicians’ orders and parameters. (Please confirm this experience on notes- updated cardiac gtts per Tracey 1.29.20 KR) Nurses will be caring for more tele patients VS medical. (MS/Tele travlers DO NOT need prior travel experience, per Tracey Greene 6.9.2022- LMussmann)
  • Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes
  • Common titratable &/or set rate drips Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor ED charge nurse.
  • Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios ED PCTs available
  • RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, etc) No Vents
  • Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Nurses must be able to read & interpret strips. No monitor tech in the ED.
  • Shifts & Scheduling 12 hr shifts (7a - 7p or 7p - 7a) Ability to self-schedule
  • however this could change from time to time.
  • Weekend Requirement 4 weekend shifts in a 4 week schedule.
  • Holiday Requirement Rotate in with the perm staff
  • Is there a call or standby requirement? No call required
  • Floating Requirements Would float to med/surg/tele/overflow units and CRMC/MGMC Eds as needed.
  • Scrub Color/Dress Code Navy
  • Unit/Department specific orientation 2 shifts orientation to Med/Surg/Tele at primary campus.
  • Additional Notes Will be caring for patients from the ER who are waiting on a bed in the hospital.
  • Additional Questions May be asked to help with ED patients including vitals, IV starts and medicaton administration. Will not be asked to be primary RN for ED patient assignment.
