Education

  • Common diagnoses/Types of patients labor, c/s, pre-eclampsia, IDM, variety of antepartum complications
  • Experience or 'Must have' skills AT LEAST two years high risk L&D, Circulate in the OR
  • Are RNs required to titrate drips? yes
  • Common titratable &/or set rate drips oxytocin, mag sulfate
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? No
  • Are there nurse aids/surgical techs on this unit? surgical techs
  • OB/Neonatologist in house 24/7? Level III NICU but Neonatologist NOT inhouse 24/7. APP's in house 24/7
  • Anesthesia in house 24/7? yes
  • RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, etc) not on L&D
  • Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? RN required to read their own fetal monitor strips
  • EFM System GE Corometrics
  • Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) self schedule process, but travelers will be expected to fill in where needed within reason
  • Weekend Requirements yes
  • Holiday Requirements yes
  • Is there a call or standby requirement? 18 hours of call per 6 weeks- When the schedule comes out, the nurses sign up for on call in 6 hour increments. So, it could be three 6 hour shifts or a 12 and a 6.
  • Floating Requirements? float to postpartum, If an extreme need could float within Zone 1: PEN, SFH, SFI, SMC, STM
  • Scrub Color/Dress code hospital provided scrubs
  • Unit/Department specific orientation yes - 1 shift
