Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality perioperative anesthesia care across a broad and complex case mix, including ortho, vascular, neuro, ENT and cardiothoracic procedures
- Medically direct and supervise CRNAs in a care-team model while maintaining opportunities to personally perform anesthesia
- Deliver obstetric anesthesia services including epidural management in a full-service OB practice
- Perform and/or learn peripheral nerve blocks and advanced regional techniques to support enhanced recovery protocols
- Participate in the Surgical Optimization Service to improve pre-op processes and patient outcomes
- Contribute to operating room efficiency initiatives and quality improvement efforts
- Mentor and train new graduates and support ongoing team development
- Share responsibility for holiday and weekend coverage as part of a collaborative scheduling model
Qualifications
- MD or DO (or equivalent) with completion of an accredited Anesthesiology residency
- Board certified or board eligible in Anesthesiology (new graduates encouraged to apply)
- Eligible for or holding an active Michigan medical license (ability to obtain state licensure required)
- Authorized to work in the United States (visa candidates are not being accepted)
- Comfort with or willingness to be trained in peripheral nerve blocks and advanced regional techniques
- Experience or willingness to provide medical direction/supervision of CRNAs
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or willing to obtain) and participation in ongoing professional development
Education
- MD or DO
- Completion of Anesthesiology residency
- Board certified or board eligible preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in general anesthesia across a wide surgical spectrum
- Regional anesthesia skills including epidurals and peripheral nerve blocks (popliteal, saphenous, adductor canal, erector spinae, TAP, brachial plexus, etc.)
- Obstetric anesthesia experience and epidural management
- Comfort with complex cases including trauma, vascular, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology and cardiothoracic procedures
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with surgeons, nursing, and anesthesia colleagues
- An interest in OR efficiency, surgical optimization, and quality improvement
