Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide timely inpatient gastroenterology consultations across floor, ED and ICU — your expertise will guide acute care decisions
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy with biopsy
• Manage esophageal procedures: dilation, manometry and interpretation to support complex motility care
• Perform small bowel and liver biopsies and other required procedures with precision and care
• Deliver endoscopic interventions such as foreign body removal, fulguration/cautery, variceal injection and banding, and PEG placement
• Carry and respond to beeper/24-hour on-call duties during your assigned week to support emergent needs
• Document clearly and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity of care and accurate handoffs
• Collaborate with a team of four physicians and hospital staff to ensure excellent patient outcomes and smooth coverage transitions

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree (friendly reminder: standard expectation for physician roles)
• Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology (preferred)
• Active or eligible medical license in Massachusetts (must be able to obtain prior to start)
• Proven experience with colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy plus required procedures listed
• Comfort managing inpatient consults, ED/ICU consults and 24-hour on-call responsibilities
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record for documentation
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification — or willingness to obtain
• Locum tenens experience is a plus but not required

Education

• MD or DO (required)
• Gastroenterology fellowship (completed)

Knowledge & Skills

• High-level procedural skills: colonoscopy, upper GI endoscopy, biopsies, PEG placement
• Esophageal motility testing knowledge including manometry and interpretation
• Acute inpatient gastroenterology management across floor, ED and ICU settings
• Endoscopic therapeutic techniques: foreign body removal, cautery/fulguration, variceal therapy
• Strong clinical decision-making under on-call conditions
• Efficient documentation and communication using EPIC
• Team-oriented approach with excellent interpersonal and handoff skills
