Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures, including ERCP (ERCP is required)
• Provide endoscopy coverage and manage inpatient consults during daytime hours
• Deliver high-volume procedural care (approximately 18 outpatient and 20 inpatient scopes per day)
• Document clinical encounters and procedures accurately in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate closely with APPs and physician colleagues to coordinate care and ensure efficient patient flow
• Participate in weekend on-call coverage and be prepared to manage urgent GI issues
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and maintain high standards for patient safety and outcomes
• Mentor and support clinical staff to foster a strong, team-based practice environment

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completed Gastroenterology fellowship
• Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology preferred
• Active or eligible for Michigan medical license (state licensure required prior to start)
• ERCP competency is required — bring hands-on therapeutic ERCP experience
• Hospital-based GI experience with endoscopy volume handling ability
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or willingness to obtain promptly)
• Comfortable using Cerner EMR and working with APPs in a collaborative model
• Ability to cover 24-hour weekend on-call shifts and adapt to variable clinical demand

Education

• MD or DO with Gastroenterology fellowship completion

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced endoscopic skills including ERCP and general endoscopy
• Strong clinical assessment and inpatient consult management
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
• Procedural efficiency and time management for high-volume endoscopy days
• Clear communication and teamwork with physicians, APPs, nursing, and ancillary services
• Familiarity with hospital-based diagnostic resources (onsite lab and X-ray) and inpatient workflows
• Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous quality improvement
