Education

• Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Sepsis, COPD, Covid, pneumonia, withdrawl, strokes post TNK administration, CRRT, IABP, impella, PA catheters. Arctic sun for post cardiac arrest patients. Recovery of immediate open heart patients. Overflow from cath lab. Post surgical needing longer recovery. - Post interventional caths.
• Experience or 'Must have' skills: Minimum of 2 years experience in ICU. Specialty skills preferred such as management of Swans, Prismaflex CRRT, IABP, Immediate open heart recovery.
• Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes
• Common titratable &/or set rate drips: All ICU drips, sedation, vasoactive medications, paralytics etc.
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Yes, charge and resource nurse on every shift. Does not take a patient load? Charge nurse free, resource may take a load.
• Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: CNA's 1: 12 ratio. May be pulled for 1:1 sitters.
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house: In house 24/7. Along with a dedicated pharmacist until 11, then house pharmacy after that.
• RT in ICU 24/7 Dedicated to ICU 24/7.
• RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, etc): All, CPAP, Bi PAP, Vents.
• Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Yes. ICU nurses are required to set up, manage and interpret the monitors and measure and interpret their own strips.
• Shifts & Scheduling: 07-1930 1900-0730. 6 weeks at a time. Self scheduling, balanced then reviewed by the manager. First schedule they would be filling holes.
• Weekend Requirement: May be working a lot of Sundays. Weekends are a high need right now.
• Holiday Requirement: Rotate with permanent staff.
• Is there a call or standby requirement? No
• Floating Requirements: Yes, most often floating between 4th, 5th or 6th floors (critical care) or to the ER for patient holds.
• Scrub Color/Dress Code: Any professional color scrubs.
• Unit/Department specific orientation: Can test out of Epic if experienced within the last year. (EPIC experience preferred). EPIC training modules along with an 8 hour onboarding and education day, tours etc and then 1 Shift with a preceptor.
