Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide clinical oversight for the Occupational Therapy department, ensuring high-quality patient care and professional standards.
- Directly evaluate and treat patients approximately 80% of the time, delivering hands-on therapy and measurable outcomes.
- Supervise and mentor Occupational Therapy staff, including direct supervision of COTAs and Rehabilitation Technicians.
- Lead clinical education and competency assessment programs to maintain and improve staff skills and compliance.
- Develop, review, and maintain occupational therapy policies and procedures covering scope of care, evaluation/treatment standards, discharge planning, and documentation.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with state practice acts, board requirements, and departmental policies.
- Coordinate discharge planning and interdisciplinary collaboration to support safe, effective patient transitions.
- Support program development and perform administrative tasks (~20% of time) to grow and strengthen therapy services.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy — required.
- Current California license as an Occupational Therapist (Board of Medical Quality Assurance) — required.
- Ability to function in accordance with the California State Practice Act.
- Possess any additional qualifications recommended by the California Therapy Board and the Rehabilitation Services Department — required.
- Membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) — preferred.
- Experience supervising COTAs and rehabilitation technicians and leading clinical competency programs.
Education
- Graduate of a school of Occupational Therapy approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (required).
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in Occupational Therapy evaluation and treatment with strong clinical judgment.
- Clinical oversight and staff supervision, including competency assessment and clinical education.
- Policy and procedure development and enforcement to ensure consistent standards of care.
- Thorough documentation practices and discharge planning proficiency.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and state board requirements.
- Program development skills and ability to balance clinical and administrative responsibilities.
