Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepares surgical suite, supplies, and equipment to meet safety and infection control standards
• Ensures integrity of sterile packaging and maintains sterile field throughout procedures
• Assists surgical team by anticipating needs of surgeons and passing instruments
• Prepares specimens for laboratory analysis and assists with patient preparation and transfers
• Adheres to aseptic techniques and participates in time-out process for patient safety
• Assists with room turnover, cleanup, patient transporting, and positioning

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Graduate of an approved course for OR Surgical Technologists required
• Minimum one year related experience or training in a clinical setting with surgical scrub experience in an ambulatory surgery facility
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Certified Surgical Technician (CST) preferred

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Graduate of an approved course for OR Surgical Technologists required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of aseptic techniques and sterile processing
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and operate surgical equipment
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Proficient in computer software including Internet, spreadsheet, and word processing
• Understanding of medical office operations and patient safety
