Education

• Common diagnoses/Types of patients Elective joint replacements, spine/neuro surgery, fractures
• Experience or 'Must have' skills Willing to jump in and help out wherever needed, fast paced unit with high turn-over of patients on daily basis, Neuro or ortho exp. bonus
• Are RNs required to titrate drips? heparin is the most likely drip you would encounter
• Common titratable &/or set rate drips
• Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Yes each shift has a charge nurse and they take a patient assignment
• Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties? Yes. Their ratio varies based on census. Typically 2 per shift. They complete hourly rounds, direct patient care, vitals, glucose checks, assist with ambulating and mobilizing patients.
• RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? low volume on this floor, trouble shoot only
• Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? No. Centralized monitoring. Must be able to identify rhythms. Must response appropriately to telemetry alerts.
• Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) Self schedule but staffing maintains the right to move any shifts before finalized to suit the needs of the department.
• Weekend Requirement every other or 6 weekend shifts in a 6 week schedule
• Holiday Requirement 2 summer holidays and 3 winter holidays. Winter holidays would be Thanksgiving day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day
• Is there Call or a Standby requirement? no
• Floating Requirements yes, be expected to float to other med-surg/tele areas as needed
