Education

• Common diagnosis / Types of patients Med Surge, Gastro, Telemetry
• Experience or 'Must have' skills 1 year
• Are RN's required to titrate drips? Yes
• Common titratable &/or set rate drips Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Cardizem
• Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Yes and they take patients
• Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties? Yes, sometimes 1:17, but prefer a 1:13 ratio. They take vitals and glucose, give baths, walk patients, I&O's, empty drains
• RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? Bi Pap, C-Pap, High Flow O2. No
• Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? No tele monitor techs. RN 's do not read the strip, but must know the rhythm.
• Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) They self-schedule but we must maintain a balanced schedule. Some days may change to balance the schedule
• Weekend Requirements Every other weekend, or 2 weekend shifts in a two week period
• Holiday Requirements 2 summer holidays and 3 winter holidays. Winter holidays would be Thanksgiving day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day
• Is there Call or a Standby requirement? No
• Floating Requirements They can be expected too float to other departments
• Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided? Galaxy Blue
