Education

• Common diagnoses/Types of patients med-surg
• post op surgical patients, PCU- strokes, lines, drains, chest tubes, CHF, post vascular procedures, arrhythmias, DKA.
• Experience or 'Must have' skills Med-surg experience, PCU/Stepdown level of experience.
• Are RNs required to titrate drips? Sometimes not usually on med-surg units
• Common titratable &/or set rate drips Heparin, Titratable- Nicardipine, NTG, insulin, Cardizem. Fixed- dopamine/dobutamine ( for stepdown)
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? They will not be acting as house supervisor or charge nurse. Charge nurse does not always take an assignment
• Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios yes, the ratio is 10 patients to 1 housewide
• RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, etc) Cpap, Bi Pap soemtimes
• Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Yes, remote cardiac monitoring. RNs read strips
• Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) Yes, self scheduliung. No, block scheduling
• Weekend Requirements Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements Depending on the staffing
• Is there a call or standby requirement? No
• How are units assigned? i.e. via text message, daily sheet assignments, set schedule? Daily staffing sheets
• Scrub Color/Dress Code Royal Blue
• Unit/Department specific orientation General Hospital Orientation, Myles Modules, Cerner Validation class, on unit orientation.
