Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality perioperative nursing care for neonatal through adolescent patients in a busy pediatric OR
• Scrub and circulate on diverse pediatric surgical cases including general, cardiac, ENT, orthopedics and more
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes
• Maintain sterile technique and enforce universal protocol (time out) procedures
• Document care accurately and efficiently in Epic and other charting systems
• Respond to codes and emergency situations with calm, practiced competence
• Support family-centered care by communicating clearly with caregivers and the surgical team
• Float to other UCSF campuses as needed to meet patient care demands

Qualifications

• Current CA RN license
• AHA BLS required
• PALS required
• Minimum 3 years Pediatric OR experience
• Trauma Level I experience required; Trauma Level II preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• CNOR preferred but not required
• Scrub and circulating experience in pediatric and cardiovascular cases preferred
• First-time travelers welcome; travel experience not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing and pediatric-specific operative care
• Scrub and circulating techniques across a wide range of specialties
• Familiarity with pediatric cardiac, ENT, endoscopic and general surgery procedures
• Use of OR equipment such as cell saver, Hana table, Steris and electrosurgical units
• Cardiac monitoring, conscious sedation monitoring and peripheral IV starts
• Administration of blood and blood products, specimen handling and infection control
• Universal Protocol (time out), radiation and laser safety
• Emergency management including code response and malignant hyperthermia preparedness
