  • Trauma Level: 2
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Unit Notes: - Unit: PACU
  • # beds: 15 cubicals
  • Phase 1 and Phase 2: Phase 1 just be knowledgable of Phase 2
  • Certs: BLS, ACLS, PALS, preferred-CPAN or CCRN- 2 years of recovery/ICU experience. 1st time traveler okay
  • Ratios: 2:1
  • EMR: Cerner-Surginet
  • Charge Nurse: Yes for each unit
  • Nurse Aides: PCA- able to draw blood and do EKGS
  • Weekend Requirement: Just call- rotational basis
  • Holidays: On rotational basis- Call only- on perm staff roation- travelers are willing to take reg nurses call if they would like
  • Call requirement: Required to take call during the week typically 2 days during week, SAT night, SUN day or night, all on rotational basis.
  • Scrub Color: Navy or supplied
  • Tele: GE spacelabs- read and interpret own strips, know ABG's and be able to work with vents, ICP monitors, align, recovering peds experience.. - From day of birth- no neonates
  • Vents: Bayer. RT will maintain but RN must be able to trouble shoot
  • Hospitalist or Intensivist in house: ICU int. 24/7, anesthe- 24/7 coverage
  • IV Team: None
  • RT 24/7: Yes
  • Pharmacy 24/7: Yes
  • Shifts: Staggered- start at 0730, 0800, 0900, 1000 all are subject to changes, will notify 2 hours prior if need to change. 12 hour shifts
  • Floating: Not required- but be able to function phase 2 and discharge a patient home. Be familiar with what instructions to give, and within surginet know how to print and pick appropriate after care instructions to give to patient for the depart.
  • Floor specific orientation: 3 shift of orientation to include orient to surginet charting, process of caring for patient, 2 patients at the same time, critical patients, how to recover a patient in ICU
  • Common types of cases to recover: Total joint replacement, hysterectomy, total shoulder, lap choly, DNC, spinal fusion, laminectomy, AV fistula, don't recover open hearts., brain tumor excision, heavy on ortho, robotics, elective cardioversion, trans. echocardiogram
  • ICU patients - do they recover in PACU: Both in PACU and in the ICU. If they are the nurse on call and have to come in both PACU nurses will stay and recover together in PACU if can, if pt needs to be recovered in ICU, both call RN's will go to ICU to recover together.
