Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert nursing care to patients undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic procedures in the operating room
• Scrub and circulate for open heart procedures including CABG, MVR, TVR, AVR, and vascular surgeries
• Set up and turn over operating rooms efficiently, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available
• Maintain strict sterile technique and adhere to infection control protocols
• Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and support staff to ensure smooth and safe procedures
• Operate specialized equipment such as Belmont, ESU, and positioning devices
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and proactively plan for potential issues

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state
• Minimum of 2 years of recent CVOR or operating room experience
• Current BLS certification (AHA)
• CNOR certification strongly preferred
• Ability to scrub and circulate for cardiovascular procedures
• Experience with sterile technique, central line setup, art line setup, Belmont, and cell saver

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of cardiovascular surgical procedures and instrumentation
• Strong understanding of sterile technique and infection prevention
• Proficient in documentation using Meditech Expanse
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Forward-thinking with proactive planning abilities
• Ability to adapt quickly to different surgical situations
