Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional perioperative nursing care for cardiothoracic, vascular, and transplant surgical patients in a Level 1 Trauma Center
• Assist the surgical team during open-heart, thoracic, esophageal, hepatobiliary, and general surgeries while maintaining a strict sterile field
• Perform Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes with precision and confidence
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner/Surginet and communicate effectively with the OR team
• Float to General OR or BNI OR as needed and support charge nurse duties when assigned
• Participate in mandatory on-call rotation for emergency and weekend procedures
• Educate patients and families about surgical procedures and post-operative expectations

Qualifications

• Active RN license; BSN not required
• Minimum 2 years of perioperative or cardiothoracic surgery RN experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CNOR certification preferred but not required
• Demonstrated competency in sterile field, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes
• Familiarity with Cerner and Surginet EMR systems
• Ability to pass SIMs Lab skills assessment (pass/fail)
• Comfortable floating between OR units and taking call

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or equivalent; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of cardiothoracic surgical procedures and instrumentation
• Strong sterile technique and infection prevention practices
• Proficient in Cerner and Surginet charting
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity cardiovascular OR environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for coordinating with surgeons and anesthesia
• Understanding of trauma-level patient care and emergency on-call responsiveness
• Familiarity with hybrid OR and endovascular cases is a plus
